Last April, we went to Bantayan island, Cebu. We spent 3 days and 2 nights in this very peaceful, relaxing and unwinding place. There are many places to visit in bantayan island like Ogtong cave, Omagieca mangrove, Kota park in Madridejos, Bantayan Church – Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, Bantayan Virgin island and many white sand beach resorts. All these places can be toured in just a day. You can rent a motorbike for 350 pesos (may vary) with a tour guide.
Our tour guide, told us bantayan island’s most visited month is during Holy week. Bantayan island had been exempted from abstaining from eating meat during holy week. It was signed by the Pope that was issued to the island during the time of Pope Leo VII in 1843. During holy week “Letchon’s” are served. As it was explained to us by our tour guide, it is not actually Bantayan’s fiesta. They are allowed to eat pork during holy week because their only living is fishing. During holy week fishermen are not allowed to work or get some fish and since fish is their main source of food they would then have to eat pork instead of fish.
Well, this Holy week I just decided to stay home and spend the holy week with my family, went to church, processions and etc. But I would really recommend you to visit Bantayan island – a must visit place in Cebu.
